Self-Drive Car Rental

Self-drive cars
in Udaipur.

Some trips want four wheels: travelling with family, arriving in the rain, or heading out to Ranakpur and Mount Abu with luggage and a schedule. Our self-drive cars come without a driver and without a meter running — you take the keys and the car is yours for the day.

Self-drive, not a taxi

The difference matters. A hired car with a driver is priced by the trip and by the hour, and every detour is a negotiation. A self-drive hire is priced by the day, and where you go is nobody's business but yours.

For a family doing the lakes, the palaces and a day out at Ranakpur, that is usually both cheaper and considerably less stressful — particularly with children, luggage, or an itinerary that changes at lunchtime.

We hand over a clean, fuelled, serviced car with its papers and insurance. Nothing is charged online; the vehicle, the documents and the total are confirmed with you directly.

Which car for which trip

A Swift or Baleno is the sensible choice for city driving and highway runs. Compact enough for Udaipur's older streets, comfortable for four, air-conditioned, and easy on fuel over a long day.

The Mahindra Thar is for the trips where the road is part of the point — the climb to Sajjangarh, the back roads toward Kumbhalgarh, the tracks beyond Badi Lake. It is not the practical choice for a family of four with suitcases, and it is by some distance the most fun.

If you're unsure, tell us the itinerary and we'll tell you which one we'd take.

Driving in and around Udaipur

The old city is genuinely not worth driving into. The lanes are too narrow, parking is scarce, and a scooter or a ten-minute walk will always win. Park near the ghats or at your hotel and go in on foot.

Everything else is straightforward. The ring road is wide and quick, NH-48 south toward Mount Abu is excellent, and the Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur roads are good tarmac with real scenery.

A valid driving licence and an original photo ID are required, plus a refundable deposit returned at drop-off. Visitors from abroad should carry an International Driving Permit with their home licence.

Common questions

What is the cost of self drive car rental in Udaipur?
Self-drive hire starts at ₹1,999 per day depending on the car, with better effective rates by the week or month. Live prices for each vehicle are on this page, and there is no hourly meter.
Is fuel included in a self-drive rental?
No. The car is handed over fuelled and you return it the same way. This keeps the daily rate honest rather than padding it against distance you may never drive.
Can I drive a self-drive rental outside Rajasthan?
Usually yes, with prior agreement, so that the paperwork and any interstate permits are in order before you leave. Tell us your route when you book.
Do you provide a driver?
No — these are self-drive hires only. That is what keeps them priced by the day rather than by the trip.
